The Offset Quality Initiative is a collaborative and consensus-based voluntary effort to pool the collective experience, resources and expertise of its member organizations regarding greenhouse gas reduction projects, or offsets.

The OQI will promote a policy agenda focused on the effective incorporation of greenhouse gas offsets and other reduction mechanisms into emerging state, regional and national climate policy.

The OQI believes that market-based solutions to environmental problems are a necessary and integral part of addressing global climate change.

The four objectives of OQI are:

  • Establish, clearly articulate, and promote the core principles that ensure quality with regard to the utilization of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission offsets, and promote the consistent and appropriate application of those principles in emerging climate change policies and regulations at the state, regional and federal levels.
  • Educate stakeholders on the opportunities and challenges presented by the integration of GHG offsets into regulatory and voluntary climate change mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as a source of credible information on GHG offsets, leveraging the diverse collective knowledge and experience of OQI members.
  • Promote innovation in the GHG offset market and provide information and guidance on best practices and policies.
